Durability
Within the SOFIE project, IVALSA has investigated in the behaviour of many wooden species subjected to weathering conditions. The test specimens were either not treated or had previously been treated with different preserving agents.
The criteria which were monitored during and after the weathering tests were chosen according to the needs of a typical building: durability against biological attacks, wood colour and its variations during time, compatibility of the wood species and their inclusions with ironmongery, aesthetic aspects.
